This course provides an in-depth exploration of antiviral drugs, covering existing types, mechanisms of action, resistance development, and the latest tools for drug discovery. It aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of antiviral therapy and the challenges and innovations in developing new antiviral agents. The course covers the entire process of antiviral drug development, from high-throughput screening methods and structure-based drug design to preclinical and clinical evaluation. Additionally, the course examines the role of immunomodulators and host-directed therapies, and the emerging role of AI and machine learning in antiviral drug discovery.

Participants will also have the opportunity to

  • discuss at the end of the lectures with experts working within antiviral research

Course Details

Types of instruction: The course consists of lectures, group discussions and poster presentations.

Accommodation:
Course registration is free of charge for NDP-VIP members who participate in all course activities. Course registration includes: full accommodation (shared double room) from the 18-21 of August, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bus transport as detailed below.

Travel:
Travel to the course must be arranged by the participating student. Full NDP-VIP members can apply for co-funding after the course has been finalized. Please read the instructions on the co-funding page before making any arrangements NDP-VIP Co-funding Policy
Do not make any travel arrangements before receiving confirmation of admittance.

Chartered buses:

On Monday August 18, NDP-VIP has a chartered bus that will depart from Gothenburg Landvetter airport (GOT) at 10:00. The bus will be labeled with NDP-VIP/Bohusgården. This bus will thereafter drive to Gothenburg Central Station, arriving around 10:30, to pick up passengers travelling by train. From there the bus will drive to Bohusgården.

On Thursday August 21, NDP-VIP has a chartered bus that will depart from Bohusgården at 10:00 and take any participants that are attending the Smögen Symposium of Virology to Smögens Hafvsbad. Please note that registration for the meeting in Smögen is handled by the Swedish Society for Virology: Smögen Symposium of Virology

Registration

NDP-VIP members can register below. In case of oversubscription, PhD students are prioritized. Priority will also be given to applicants in relation to how relevant the course is for their research project. We also aim for an even distribution of participants from different research groups and universities.
